Ingrid Restemayer and James Wrayge:
ALLOPHONES
CITYPAGES A LIST : February
2007
| "This Rosalux exhibition pairs the work of locals Ingrid Restemayer and James Wrayge by color, with each artist working in a palette of earth tones and bolder reds and blues. Restemayer's multimedia pieces are subdued and pretty, resembling Asian scrolls and containing recurring elements of fiber, thread stitching, and delicate fish creatures. James Wrayge's complementary paintings are thick with paint but never busy. One of the brighter pairings: Wrayge's Backstage, a red field and black swipes that feels almost flag-like, giving Restemayer's similarly red August, January, July the semblance of a poster." - Christina Schmitt |
PULSE TWIN CITIES : February
2007
| "Rosalux Gallery's Allophones is a joint exhibition between Ingrid Restemayer and James Wrayge, characterized as an abstract visual dialogue, which results in conversations between comparative images. Restemayer's intricate etchings on handmade paper features hand-printed images of delicate koi fish, eggs and other elements of nature that have been successively collaged before being punctuated by mock-paragraph forms made from embroidery-stitched threads. Wrayge's pieces encase vivid color patches within fine, under-painted lines. These two distinctive artists work in vastly different processes and mediums, yet find their way to a common exchange of ideas. Wrayge's expressive oils on canvas contrast, yet naturally communicate, with Restemayer's mixed-media collages. The work of both of these talented artists is meditative and contemplative." - Betsy Mowry |
